A Fashion Designer course teaches you how to make clothing and accessories. You will learn to sketch designs, select fabrics and sew clothes. It turns your creative ideas into wearable fashion for the industry.
The latest AISHE reports show that 45,000 to 55,000 students study design across India. NIFT, which is under the Ministry of Textiles, is the main government hub with 18 campuses. According to the Ministry of Textiles’ data, admission through NTA is very competitive – over 21,000 students apply yearly, but only 4,700 to 5,100 get selected.
For a Fashion Designer course, candidates should clear Class 12 in any stream with a passing mark. Admission to Fashion Designer courses is usually based on Class 12 marks. But since NIFT and NID are the top two colleges for Fashion Designing courses, most students prefer to take their entrance exams. Many other colleges also offer Fashion Designer courses – some of these colleges take admission directly through Class 12 scores, while others accept entrance exams like CUET or UCEED (for IITs).
After a Fashion Designing course, as a fresher, you can get a salary between INR 1.5 LPA and INR 3 LPA. Once you reach a senior role, you can get between INR 12 LPA and INR 30+ LPA.
